An amazing young man, a real hero, was lost on June 16, 2008.
He suffered immeasurably, risked his own health and his own life trying to save his brother, Jeffrey, his best friend and lifelong companion, from a wretched disease ~ Leukemia. He was his brother’s stem cell donor. He was devastated when the transplant failed, and we lost Jeffrey to this wretched disease. But, in spite of it all, after losing Jeffrey, he joined the National Marrow Donor Registry, as he said, “I couldn’t save Jeffrey, but I may be able to give someone else a second chance at life. That’s what Jeff would want me to do, and that’s what I want to do.” He didn’t have time. He died of Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome ~ a broken heart ~ less than 5 months after losing his brother.
Can you take 10 seconds from your day on June 16 to remember Brian?
He is my child, but he is also my hero … And, he will always be, just like his brother. And, as he said, “Leukemia, you SUCK ~”
Yes, it does. I leave my light on for my boys every night. I hope you will, too …
